Discovering, Learning and Mastering the Art of SEO

Starting from the age of 16, in my bedroom!

 

My interest in SEO triggered like the flick of a switch. I could never get my head around how my searches were being displayed. Why did Google rank website A above website B? And naturally, I started looking into the inner workings of Google's search engine. Guess what? I quickly saw the terms 'SEO' and 'search engine optimisation' in every corner I looked.

 

After reading more and more into SEO, from MOZ blogs and the like, I was immediately hooked. I was reading every single day about how SEO worked, the terminologies, meanings, algorithms, updates, techniques and so on.

 

5/6 months later of non-stop reading and researching, I purchased a testing domain and some cheap web hosting. It took me a while to get everything set up, I was on a huge learning curve, and the whole hosting side of things completely threw me.

 

Having set myself up with a site to plough my knowledge into, I was quick off the mark. I knew about keyword research,  on-page SEO, technical SEO, content optimisation and link building.

 

I started to rank sites for low-level keywords in a matter of months, sometimes weeks!

 

Months later, I had my first client, a local barber. Seven years down the line and I'm still working with him. 


The Agency Life

Being based in Stoke-on-Trent, I got my first SEO role in the city of Walsall.

 

I did some SEO work (for the fun of it) for a web development agency in Cannock. Next thing I know, the owner of an SEO agency who was friends with the web development director, was also trying to rank his site.

 

I had managed to rank his site in a matter of weeks, and the SEO agency quickly realised that someone else was working on the site. Before I knew it, I had a phone call to discuss a potential job opportunity. I met with the director of the SEO agency and was offered a position on the spot.

 

As this was my first role, I walked away with bags of knowledge that I didn't have before.

Now?

 

From 2014, I started working for a Multi-award winning certified Magento eCommerce, WordPress & Search Marketing agency. They go by the name of Attain Design.

 

Having started Attain as an SEO Executive, I've worked my way up to the role of 'SEO Strategy Manager'.

 

I'm fortunate enough to work with an absolutely talented group of UX/designers, developers and search marketers.
